Remember in 2019 when demanding that everyone in the UK had access to the internet irrespective of income was considered ‘Broadband Communism’?….Today teachers across the country are still reporting delays in access to laptops and internet access for their pupils.
Ofcom estimates that between 1.14 million and 1.78 million children in the UK (9 per cent) do not have home access to a laptop, desktop, or tablet and that more than 880,000 children live in a household with only a mobile internet connection.
In June 2020 the National Education Union, Labour and others all called on Government to urgently address the digital divide and provide laptops to all pupils who needed one. 7 months on this has not been properly addressed. How long does it really take to order and distribute laptops?
