Memorial to Salford Miners

Was really moving event today at the Town Hall in Swinton to unveil the new miners memorial bench.

On one end is a miner eating his butties and on the other is a miners lamp and the number of Adam Stott who died in Agecroft colliery in 1980 along with Colin Heaton.

It definitely illustrates how important mining was to the people of Salford, Eccles, Swinton and Pendlebury.

It made us who we are and we can't forget those who worked and lost their lives, also those who fought for all of us to have a better life during the Miners struggle.

Big thanks to the friends of Agecroft Colliery for commissioning the bench today and their hard work along with the Irwell Valley Mining Project for making sure our history is never forgotten.

Also.....Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for the Irwell valley mining project's pop up museum, it is making its way round health and community centres across Salford.
