The situation leaseholders of Millennium Tower and Millennium Point face is unacceptable. With no guarantee that the Government’s Building Safety Fund will cover the cost of urgent safety works, they are faced with the prospect of financially devastating costs where some may even lose their home as a result.
Leaseholders did not cause this national crisis, they bought their homes with the assurance they were safe and they should not be forced to live in fear nor bear the cost of Government failure.
The Government must urgently implement the 10 asks of the ‘EndOurCladdingScandal’ campaign, increase the amount available under the Building Safety Fund and take strong action to pressure developers and freeholders to make their tower blocks safe immediately, strictly at no cost to leaseholders.
So far Government has made nice noises, publicly encouraging developers and freeholders to foot the costs if they can but the reality is very different. Nothing has been done to legislate for this at all and many leaseholders are left with the obligations under their lease to pay these exorbitant remediation costs, and worse….. live in an unsafe building.
