NTV 70th anniversary
NTV 70th anniversary

Today is the 70th anniversary Liz Truss wants to forget, the #PlutoniumJubilee of Britain’s first atomic bomb test. Britain is the only nation who have not properly recognised their nuclear test veterans, and time is running out.

Earlier this year, both Opposition Leader Keir Starmer and then Prime Minister Boris Johnson had meetings with veterans and descendants. This was unprecedented, the first time a British PM had met with these veterans.

I don’t often agree with Boris but I celebrated when he wrote to the veterans on his last day in office and promised them that the #PlutoniumJubilee would be marked, along with other measures:https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pms-letter-to-veterans-of-the-uks-nuclear-testing-programme-5-september-2022

Campaigners have 5 asks: medal; apology; education; financial support; and research, which I believe should be a full health Inquiry. Today Gov committed money towards educational plans and a commemoration.

Liz Truss also promised to back the nuclear test veterans, but since getting into No10 she has not agreed to meet them, and the anniversary is here with no medal or apology in sight. She must remedy this urgently: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/truss-reclaim-credibility-nuclear-veterans-280820396/

Most importantly, hear nuclear test veterans’ testimonies here – it will shock you what these veterans witnessed and went through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yb_nRyjoC4&feature=youtu.be
