The death of Awaab Ishak should never have happened. Yesterday I spoke in support of Awaab’s Law, a vital first step in social housing reforms, brought forward by the relentless campaigning of Tony Lloyd MP, Manchester Evening News Change.org and the Ishak Family.

Awaab’s Law would bring the vital changes needed to social housing landlords. With clear minimum standards, strict minimum timeframes for fixing any hazards found, such as damp and mould, and urgent priority moves if a property is unsafe.
